Sweden has many fabulous exports. Let's forget the fact that the late Denniz Pop was Swedish and his protegé Max Martin would become one of the driving forces in today's modern music world. With that, let's talk about Zara Larsson. She's probably Sweden's biggest export since IKEA, Swedish meatballs, Ace of Base and the ever-iconic ABBA. I used to always tease about "Never Forget You" since it sounded like a blatant copy of Skrillex & Diplo's Jack Ü collab with Justin Bieber, "Where Are Ü Now", but it took a while for it to grow on me. Let's also remember that MNEK was the driving force behind this production and he has worked with Diplo before.
Zara's surely no stranger to the music world. Her first brush with fame came when she won the 2008 season of Talang (Swedish version of the 'Got Talent' series) where she brushed the crowd away with her cover of Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." at the age of 10. Zara would go on to sign her first record deal in 2012 and by the following year, would release her debut EP titled "Introducing" in her native Sweden. Her EP would go on to make triple platinum status, landing her a record deal with Epic Records that same year.
Zara is also an avid Beyonce fan, once stating that on Beyonce's tour stop to Sweden, Zara was crying throughout the entire performance in the front row and collapsed when she got to meet Beyonce face to face backstage. Her advocacy for women's rights and her outspoken remarks on Twitter against abuse towards women (in particularly the case with Chris Brown) have only made her a prominent role model for girls all over the world. Zara also has a natural charisma when interacting with her fans. I'm really looking forward to hearing more from Zara Larsson within the next few years.
